Province Castellón is one of the 50 provinces in which Spain is divided and is located in the northernmost part of the Valencian Community. It has a population of 595.195 inhabitants. It is the most mountainous province of Spain and its coast receives the tourist name of Costa del Azahar. The climate is Mediterranean and it is characterized by mild winters and warm summers, although in the interior the temperatures are usually cold, with precipitations in the form of snow in the winter.
Its capital is Castellón de la Plana, which is also the capital of the Comarca de la Plana Alta. It has 177.924 inhabitants according to the INN of 2008.
The birth and name of the city as we know it today dates from1252 when Jaime first granted permission to move it from the mountain to the plain. Castelló (in Valencian) means «Small castle, castillito» and flat means «plain».
In the city we can see monuments such as the Cathedral Church of Santa María la Mayor, Basilica of the Virgin of Lledó, Episcopal Palace and El Fadrí, among many other things.
