Leon It is one of the Spanish provinces that make up Castile and Leon and is located northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, its capital comes the same names. Bordered on the north by the Principality of Asturias Cantabria, on the west by Galicia, on the south by Zamora and Valladolid and on the east by Palencia.
It has a territorial extension of 15.581 km and its population is 500.200 inhabitants. Two major routes run through it: the Vía de la Plata and the Camino de Santiago.
Place of passage between important regions of the Iberian peninsula, by the Leon province there are two major routes: from south to north the Vía de la Plata, and from east to west the Camino de Santiago. Its location, in the North Plateau, makes it belong to three different hydrological basins: the Duero, the Minho and the North basins. Due to them the climate is characterized between wet and dry, distinguishing up to five climatic zones.
Its economy follows the trend of the rest of Spanish cities, with a service sector on the rise. Agriculture occupies an 7,8 of the employees of the province, the main crops are cereals and legumes, tubers for human consumption, industrial crops and forage. In the industry highlights food, textiles, clothing, wood, graphic arts, chemistry, glass and cement and metal, and employ 14,5% of the population. The traditional Leon coal mining has been losing weight with the passage of time.
Other large population centers are Astorga, Villafranca del Bierzo and Ponferrada. Precisely in this last one we find one of the two stores of Zara Home that there is in León.
