La Province of Pontevedra is one of the four that make up the Autonomous Community of Galicia. It limits with the provinces of La Coruña, Lugo and Orense, with Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Its population according to the Ine of 2006 was of 943.117 inhabitants. Vigo is the most populated city in the province, although the capital is Pontevedra. Other relevant municipalities due to their population are Redondela, Nigrán and Porriño.
The province is organized historically and economically by counties, each of them well delimited. Pontevedra is therefore the head of the region of Pontevedra and capital of the Rias Baixas.
As a provincial capital, the city of Pontevedra is a tourist, administrative and service city. Its population in recent years is increasing to the detriment of other large Galician population centers.

Vigo is another of the most representative cities in Pontevedra. In fact it is the most populated city of the province (above the capital) and also of Galicia. It is a coastal municipality located in the Rias Baixas, specifically in the estuary that bears his name. It is located in the Comarca of Vigo and has a population of 295.703 inhabitants (according to the INE of 2008). Its economy is very diversified and linked to the fishing sector, industry (mainly automobile and naval) and services.
