The province of Valencia is framed within the Valencian Community and the provincial capital is Valencia. Its territory occupies an extension of 10.563 km2 and its population reaches the 2.543.209 inhabitants. It is located east of the Iberian Peninsula, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the provinces of Castellón and Teruel to the north, Cuenca and Albacete to the west and Alicante to the south.
Other large population centers are Gandía, Torrente, Sagunto, Paterna, Alcira, Onteniente or Játiva.
Its capital is the third Spanish city in importance and population, behind Madrid and Barcelona. It is located on the banks of the Turio River and was founded as Valentia Edetanorum in the year 138 BC It has a typical Mediterranean climate, soft and humid, and its average temperature is 17,8 º.
Among its most important monuments and buildings we can find the Lonja de la Seda (World Heritage Site), the church of San Juan del Hospital, Torres de Quart and Torres de Serranos Torre del Miguelete. In the plane of the modern architecture it is possible to emphasize the City of the Arts and the Sciences, a magnificent complex realized by the architect Santiago Calatrava.
In relation to other events, it has the Tennis Open of the Valencian Community and a Grand Prix of Formula One, which runs on its brand new urban circuit.
